1. The Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics

1.1 About SGI

The Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics is a training base and scientific research base of high-end surveying and mapping geographic information with distinctive traffic characteristics, first-class in China and international influence.

The Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics is committed to inheriting and carrying forward the teaching and scientific research in traditional fields such as railway engineering survey, aerial photogrammetry, survey data processing, digital elevation model and so on. At the same time, it has formed distinct characteristics in high-speed railway precise engineering survey, synthetic aperture Radar Interferometry Technology, GNSS theory and technology, and three-dimensional geographic information system.

The Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics has formed a multi-level scientific research and practice platform system of "National Laboratory (Preparatory) – State-Province joint laboratory - provincial and ministerial laboratory", and participated in 2011 collaborative innovation plan "Rail transit safety Collaborative Innovation Center" and "Geospatial Information Technology Collaborative Innovation Center". The Department has the State-Province joint Engineering Laboratory of "Spatial Information Technology for High Speed Railway Safety ", emergency surveying and mapping technology innovation center of Ministry of natural resources, and technical support center for Sichuan provincial data and application center of high resolution earth observation system of State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence, PRC, and provincial and ministerial level platforms, such as "Emergency Surveying and Mapping Research Center for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of Sichuan Province". All the platform are beneficial to support the scientific research and teaching activities of surveying and geo-informatics subject.

The Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics has formed a complete talent training system from bachelor, master, doctor to postdoctoral. It has authorized doctoral degree and master's degree in the first level discipline of "Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology", and has a postdoctoral research station. There are four second level discipline doctoral programs covering "geodesy and Surveying Engineering", "cartography and Geographic Information Engineering", "photogrammetry and remote sensing". There also are four second level discipline master programs, namely "cartography and geographic information system", "geodesy and surveying engineering", "photogrammetry and remote sensing", "cartography and Geographic Information Engineering". Moreover, there are professional master / doctoral degree authorization programs in the engineering field of "Surveying and Mapping Engineering". There are three undergraduate majors of "Surveying and Mapping Engineering", "Remote Sensing Science and Technology" and "Geographic Information Science".

The Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics has signed strategic cooperation agreements with nearly 20 countries / overseas universities including Munich University of Technology and Bonn University, which has promoted substantive cooperation in personnel training and scientific research. It has trained a large number of outstanding professionals in the fields of rail transit, land resources, surveying and mapping geographic information, and has made great contributions to China's rail transit industry and the development of western local economy. It has made an important contribution and has a strong influence at home and abroad.
